Lindsay Lohan Sentenced to 30 Days in Jail

Lindsay Lohan Crying in court.
A Los Angeles judge has ordered Lindsay Lohan to complete 30 days in a county jail, and serve an additional 270 should she violate her probation again. She must surrender to authorities by November 9, 2011.

The actress is on probation for a drink-driving offence in 2007 and a theft case where she took a necklace from a shop near her home in Venice Beach.

The Mean Girls star broke her probation terms when she failed to keep appointments with a psychologist for therapy sessions and when she failed to attend her shifts at a women's shelter.

It will be Lohan's fifth jail sentence since 2007.

The judge also gave the actress a strict schedule to complete her remaining probation which will be done at a Los Angeles morgue.

Previously, At a progress hearing for the 25 year-old the actress, Los Angeles, in October 19, 2011, Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner called her previous ruling of probation on a theft charge a "gift" and told Lohan, "there's something called looking a gift horse in the mouth."

Lohan's lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley tried in vain to argue that her client had complied substantially with other portions of Judge Sautner's sentence, including psychological counselling and attendance in a programme for shoplifters.

But Judge Sautner said the actress had "blown off" her order to work at a downtown Los Angeles women's detention centre.

Earlier this year, Judge Sautner sentenced the actress to 360 hours community service as part of a sentence for stealing a gold necklace from a jewellery store.

The Mean Girls actress was led away from the courtroom in handcuffs. Lohan's once promising film career has been derailed by multiple trips to jail and rehab since 2007.
